COMPILING a record of man of the match awards throughout the season, the Hexham Courant has used the information to construct teams of the year for both divisions of the Hexham and District Sunday League.

The players with most awards have been drafted into the star team. Where there's been a tie, the selection has hinged on most goals and then their team's final position in the league table.

An outstanding run of form at the end of the season saw Haydon Bridge Anchor midfielder Kev MacDonald edge his way to the top of the man of the match awards in Division Two.

He finished with a staggering total of eight, relegating Hexham Hearts defender Duncan Scott, with seven, to the runner-up spot despite him leading the way from the opening day of the season. He was overhauled on the final game!

Runaway champions Heddon St Andrew's made a big impression in their debut campaign in the division, and unsurprisingly have the most representatives in the team.

The trio of the division's top scorer Dan Walker, Mark Murtagh and Ross Bailey all feature, the former up front with the other two occupying midfield positions.

Joining Walker to lead the line, Hexhamshire striker Phil Tipple is included after an impressive six awards, even if he finished second in the club's goalscoring charts to Lee Riley.

The division's runners-up Hearts had Tom North impressing throughout and takes a place on the wing, while Tony Stephenson occupies the final midfield spot as he was Swinburne Arms Stamfordham's shining light as they finished bottom of the pile.

Similarly to Division One, the teams towards the bottom had defensive minded players starring despite their struggles with two of the bottom three providing three players.

Rob Parker's only goal of the campaign for second bottom Hexhamshire helped him to a place in the team, alongside Andy Wright and in front of goalkeeper Phil Suckling, the latter two representing Rose and Crown Bellingham.

There were a few players just short of the team despite being tied with others with three awards, they being: Nathan Jones (Adam and Eve Prudhoe), Matty Ballantyne, Stu Sproul (Haltwhistle Railway), Michael Mason (Rose and Crown Bellingham) and Nick Coward (Hexhamshire).
