YOUNG footballers from Corbridge took to the field in honour of terminally ill Bradley Lowery.

The six-year-old Sunderland fan, from Blackhall Colliery in County Durham, is suffering from neuroblastoma, an aggressive form of cancer.

All proceeds will go to a charity foundation set up in Bradley’s name, to fund his fight against the disease.

Newcastle United legend Malcolm Macdonald was on hand to launch the tournament, which also included teams from Newcastle East End, Blyth Town, Gateshead Redheugh, and Newcastle Benfield.

Corbridge Utd coach Robert Dodds said: “We’ve had a successful season, winning the NEYDL League, and it was an honour to be invited to play in this tournament for Bradley Lowery.

“We came fifth overall against some very good teams, but Malcolm Macdonald pointed out at the very start that the most important aspect was taking part.

“We all wanted to do our bit and help raise some money in aid of the Bradley Lowery Foundation and its aim to fight neuroblastoma.”
