PRUDHOE Town make the trip to Consett tonight (July 18) as the annual Clayton Charity Cup returns.

The Wearside League side head to Consett Leisure Centre to take on competition newcomers Blackhill Ebchester, of the Durham Alliance, in the opening game of Group B. Kick off is at 7.40pm.

The action kickstarts this year's Tynedale-only pre-season football competition, with the remaining opening group games all taking part tomorrow evening.

Northern Alliance Premier Division rivals Wallington and cup holders Ponteland United meet at Scots Gap, also in Group B.

Division One's Hexham will play Division Two side Winlaton Vulcans, who operated as Clayton Cup runners-up Ryton and Crawcrook Albion A last year, in an all-Alliance match-up, and Saturday new boys Haltwhistle Jubilee will start their warm up for their debut season in the Tyneside Amateur League by welcoming Alliance outfit Prudhoe YC Seniors to Bardon Mill.

Tomorrow's games will all kick off at 6.45pm.

As has been the case in the past few years, all group games will be followed a penalty shoot-out, regardless of the score. The team successful in the shoot-out will get a point as a result.

For example, if the game between Ebchester and Prudhoe tonight ends in a draw but Prudhoe win the shoot-out, Prudhoe will be awarded two points and Ebchester one.

If Ebchester win the game but lose the shoot-out, they will get three points and Prudhoe one, and so on.
