THE second instalment of the coming together of mini footballers from Tynedale and Glendale proved as popular as the first.

For this weekend's Tynedale/ Glendale tournament for U9 and U10 representatives held at Tynedale Rugby Club, in Corbridge, was a big hit from the 34 teams entered from the two districts.

Local members of the Tynedale Mini Soccer League were joined by opponents from the Glendale League, including teams from Berwick, Rothbury, Alnwick, Lowick and Felton, with more than 300 children taking part.

The Allen Trophy for the U9 teams was keenly contested and was decided on penalties as Tynedale's Kingston Park Gladiators defeated Felton Bees 4-2 in the shoot-out after a goalless final.

Kingston Park had defeated Corbridge United in the semi-finals, with Felton beating Corbridge Lions in their final four match-up.

The Tyne Trophy for U10 competition was also won by a Tynedale team, with Throckley Magpies Inter adding to their West Division Trophy a few weeks ago by finding the only goal in a close final with Felton Juniors.

Thockley edged out Kingston Park Galaxy by the only goal to make the final, with Felton enjoying the same slender winning margin over Hexham Rapid in the semi-finals.
