HEXHAM showed a clinical side as they returned from Seaton Burn with all three points.

In a real cut and thrust encounter, the visitors hit the back of the net three times to collect maximum points.

Played on a boggy pitch after heavy overnight rain, the game was fairly even for the large part with Hexham showing that little bit extra in front of goal.

They started the game well and their early pressure translated into the opening goal on six minutes when Robbie Pattison’s low effort beat the dive of goalkeeper Christhopher Baker.

Hexham remained on top as they made the most of the downhill advantage, but Seaton came into the game on 25 minutes with Andrew Miley and Spence both looking dangerous.

A slip by Hexham goalkeeper Thomas Craney allowed Spence in, but he was to denied a goal by an excellent tackle from defender Gavin Hunter.

At the other end, Hexham extended their lead from a set piece after Tony Lancaster was brought down 18 yards out.

Will Forsyth stepped up to take the tricky free kick but expertly curled it past Baker to double his side’s lead before the half time whistle.

Burn came racing out of the traps after the restart and created great chances to get back into the game.

Try as they may, though, they were kept out by a resolute Hexham with Craney pulling off a great save and Callum Thomas clearing an effort off the line.

The hosts continued to pour forward but left themselves exposed at the back, but Hexham couldn’t capitalise with Callum Duncan, Lancaster and Pattison all going close.

The deciding goal came with just over 15 minutes to go when new signing Brad Ives picked out Tom North with an excellent 30-yard pass, for the midfielder to coolly slot home for 3-0.

The goal brought an end to an entertaining game between two attacking teams, despite the surface of the pitch disrupting their flow. Despite a brave effort from the hosts, Hexham left with the rewards for a great all-round team performance.
