A PONTELAND High School pupil scooped a runners-up medal from a national futsal tournament.

Alex Richardson appeared for the FA Regional North and East Yorkshire Deaf and Partially Sighted Futsal team which made the trip to the national finals at the Birmingham Futsal Centre.

The team is selected from players throughout the North, and is the first step towards England selection.

They just missed out on in the final to clinch the runners-up trophy.

Ponteland headteacher Kieran McGrane said: “Alex is in his first year at Ponteland and has made a great start, impressing everyone with his enthusiasm and positive attitude.

“I am sure these characteristics will be essential to him as he continues to progress, hopefully to represent his country.”
