IT was David Burns' turn to score the winner as Prudhoe YC Seniors again finished as 3-2 victors.

While a late Matty Robinson goal secured victory the week before, it was the impressive Burns whose goal earned Prudhoe a vital three points from a hard fought game with Whitburn Athletic.

Burns finished with a goal and two assists as he helped his side to a sixth win on the bounce, but he was pipped to the man of the match by goalkeeper Robert Thirtle, who turned 17 just two weeks ago. The average age of Prudhoe's team was just 20.

It was a tight game with Whitburn throughout, with the first chance falling to Sam Mannion on 18 minutes.

However, it was Whitburn who broke the deadlock on 25 minutes when they enjoyed a slice of good fortune, an effort deflecting off a defender and beating Thirtle.

The scores were level five minutes later, Burns getting in behind and crossing for Jack Bell, whose lay off found Mannion to finish from 12 yards out.

Then followed a crazy two-minute spell which had Prudhoe tearing their hair out.

Mannion hit the post with a great effort from 20 yards, while Danny Driver sent an effort on to the crosbar.

Burns then drilled a shot into the top of the net with the ball bouncing back out, the referee not awarding a goal, to the disbelief of the Prudhoe players.

Burns was continuing to make a nuisance of himself and it was from his marauding run that Prudhoe went ahead for the first time in the game.

After cutting inside, he was brought down in the area, and Robinson drilled a ferocious effort from 12 yards past the Whitburn goalkeeper.

The game continued to be closely fought, and Athletic were buoyed when they equalised on the hour.

Yet Burns capped an excellent performance by scoring an eye catching winner as he dribbled past two defenders before applying a neat, low finish to the goalkeeper's right.
