HAYDON Bridge U9 had cause to celebrate after victory in the Tynedale mini soccer tournament.

The group B winners progressed to the final of the Sam Oliver Memorial Shield after defeating group A runners-up Allendale Lions 4-0, thanks to two goals apiece from David Alderson and Kieron Edwards.

In the final they faced group A winners Allendale Town, who beat Corbridge United 3-0, thanks to two goals from Matthew Dotchin and one from Vinnie Boertin.

The final saw Haydon Bridge snatch victory in the last few seconds over Allendale Town 3-2, with two goal from Daniel Alderson and Kieron Edwards again on target. Allendale scored through Vinnie Boertien and a consolation own goal.

The winners of the Presidents Plate, between the two losing semi-finalists, saw two goals by Tom Clark for the Lions defeat Corbridge

Sunday sees the U10 competition start at 10am at Wentworth Leisure Centre, in Hexham, when the Richard PC Nixon Cup will again be up for grabs.
