Throckley beat Corbridge to semi-final spot in shield

CORBRIDGE United U10s hosted Throckley Magpies Inter in a rearranged Tyne Valley Insurance Tynedale U10s Mini-soccer League Challenge Shield second round tie on Saturday morning.

It was their visitors who edged their way into the semi-finals by the odd goal in five.

The home side dominated the early stages to lead through man of the match Ben Harris but missed numerous chances to press home their advantage before half-time.

The Magpies countered strongly after the break with outstanding skipper Jack Croucher leading by example in hitting a brace with Ben Boyd also on target in giving them a 3-1 lead.

A late Nika Sharifi penalty raised Corbridge’s hopes of an equaliser.

But further sustained pressure from Corbridge, in a bid to snatch an equaliser to take the game into extra-time, went unrewarded as Throckley held out to join Haydon Bridge U10s, Hexham Greens and Prudhoe YC Reds U10s in the last four.

Following their traditional three week holiday break teams return to league action tomorrow morning while there are some interesting West Division Youth FA Coalfields Regeneration Trust Trophy quarter finals also programmed – weather and ground conditions permitting.
