It was standing room only in the grandstand at Tynedale Park, Corbridge, as around 200 youngsters from Corbridge United Junior Football Club celebrated their annual presentation day.
There was a huge cheer as the special guest for the day, Sweden’s U18 International and Newcastle United goalkeeper Ole Sodeberg was introduced. Ole was a huge hit with the youngsters as well as the mams.
There was special mention made of the successful events the club had held over the season including the two courses which saw 14 young referees become fully qualified and 11 Club coaches who attained their Level 1 coaching badge together with the hugely successful McDonald’s Soccer Festival and the visit to the club from Sir Geoff Hurst, Eric Harrison and Paul Bracewell.
The presentations began with the handing out of certificates to the new squad of young girls who will be wearing the club’s colours next season.
They have been training hard over the past few weeks, along with the Under 7s who have been enjoying a season of coaching in readiness for their games starting in September.
The main individual awards saw the trophies for Most man of the match awards, highest goalscorer and players’ player of the season handed to the U8s through to the 15s.
The teams and supporters then headed down to the rugby pitch where the team managers from each of the year groups acknowledged the individual efforts made during the season and presented further awards across their squads.
Following the presentations it was time to sample the delights of the barbecue and listen to the fantastic music from local band Razor Sharp.
During the summer the club will be hosting Soccer Fun Days to introduce new members along with girls’ coaching. If anyone would like any further information contact Mike Robinson on 0777 5503872.
