IN AN intensively competitive match on Friday night, Stocksfield Cricket Club’s U15 team won through to the county final.
They won the toss against Alnwick and elected to field.
Good opening spells from Stephen Henderson and Colin Coulson restricted the Alnwick openers at the start.
Coulson took two wickets for 11 off his four overs but then Green and Robson began to attack the home side’s bowling.
Robson in particular played well for his 47 not out as Alnwick finished on 119-3 off 20 overs.
James Tolchard bowled Green, the only other wicket to fall.
In reply the Stocksfield opening pair of Henderson and Liam Bennett began positively, and took the score to 31 before Bennett fell to a sharp stumping by Green.
Another quick wicket saw Mark Baron join Henderson and they moved the score briskly on to 70 before Henderson was caught for a fine 39.
Baron continued to strike the ball well and, after the set back of Coulson departing first ball, he was joined by George Honeyman who settled in to reach the target score.
Picking off the bad length ball with ease he played some crisp boundary shots to ease Stocksfield home in the 17th over.
Honeyman finished on 32 not out and Baron, who was caught in the deep late on, ended on 32.
This was an accomplished performance for a useful looking team who will now meet either Tynemouth or South Northumberland in the final, for which Stocksfield will have home advantage.
