WHILE fellow challengers were gifted the points, Wark had to work for their maximum points which keep them in the hunt at the top of Division Two.

They remain level on points with the top two after a 84 run success over Hexham Leazes II , their bowlers in good form to restrict their guests.

They got off to a steady start through the top three of Gordon Jeffrey, Greg McConnell and Stephenson, with captain Paul Armstrong and John Pigg forming a good middle order partnership to push the score on.

Leazes opener Ben Cousins took four wickets, with youngster Edward Foreman continuing his good form to claim two. It was Wark’s bowlers who impressed most though with Simon Jeffrey and fellow opener Armstrong making an instant impact.

Jon Toward and David Oliver were the only Hexham batsmen to reach double figures as they were skittled out for 52, McConnell coming in to take two wickets and Ant Gray claiming one at the cost of just two runs.

Humshaugh II maintained their good form of late with a convincing win at Corbridge Millers .

They restricted Corbridge to 123 through good performances with the ball and in the field, Steven Thompson and Adam Murphy in the wickets to undo a good start from the Millers, thanks largely to Kiel Zurawlew.

The innings was also notable for an outstanding, one handed catch at deep cover from Duncan Sewell to remove Richard Stokoe.

Humshaugh went for the runs and were off to a good start through openers Michael Arunup and captain Carl Binovec, with an unbeaten fourth wicket stand between Ian Lishman and Andy Mullen upping the run rate to end the game after 21 overs.

The remaining four games in the division didn’t go ahead due to teams conceding the fixtures.
