TYNEDALE U18 will have to wait until next year for the chance to complete the double.

The team were on top of the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League Junior Division Cup final with Whickham as they looked to add to their league title, but were thwarted when the rain arrived and forced the abandonment of the tie.

It has been confirmed the final will be replayed at the beginning of the 2018 season.

Tynedale had enjoyed a dominant run in the league as they won nine of the 11 games, the other two cancelled, and they had their guests in trouble at 42-3 in the cup showdown.

Chasing Tynedale's 122-5, they were falling short of the just over six runs per over required when the rain stopped played in the 12th over, 20 minutes after an earlier break in play.

Batting first, Oliver Fletcher and Euan Stephenson starred in a 37-run partnership for the second wicket after Dale Leadbitter had played on at two for the first wicket to fall.

Fletcher, Stephenson and Richard Brooks all then fell in quick succession to take the score from 39-1 to 55-4.

Sam Peter and Matthew Percival added another 35 for the fifth wicket until a mix-up had the former run out at 90.

It was then over to Percival and Matty Pugh to play intelligently and take the score past 100, an unbeaten partnership of 32 seeing them finish on 122.

Tynedale were well on top of the second innings as Pugh took two wickets and George Cook one, Whickham saved by the rain as the umpires called time on the 2017 season.
