TYNEDALE‘S young stars again shone as they toppled table toppers Shotley Bridge.

Denied victory by the rain against Swalwell, the team, this week comprising two U17 and three U15 players, shocked fierce rivals Bridge with another excellent performance.

It was the teenage pairing of Will Dagg (36no) and U15 Dale Leadbitter (41no) who guided them home, putting on a knock of 74 to see them pass the daunting total of 256.

Bridge captain Peter Collingwood was in fine form as he smashed 11 fours and a six on his way to 104, Bridge recovering from the early loss of Kieran Milburn (0) to a delivery from U17 Josh Renton (3-37).

Collingwood and Paul Greenwell (70) put on 130 for the second wicket to put Shotley in control, their partnership finally ended when U15 Richard Brooks (1-36) sent Greenwell packing.

His replacement, ex-Tyne pro Stuart Graham, went on to match his predecessor’s score of 70 as he batted through, but he lost partners along the way. Collingwood went to Renton after he and Graham made 97 to put Bridge on 233-3, with Lewis Hall (1) not lasting long as Tom Cant ran him out.

Ross Andrews (2) was run out by Brooks, while Phillip Carlin (1) was caught by James Rainford to give teenager Renton his third wicket of the day.

Shotley ended on 256-7 when Gary Johnson was run out by U15 Matthew Percival.

The score looked out of reach as Cant (4) went early, followed by Rainford (18) with the score on 33.

John Meadows (87) and Jamie Crichton (55) rebuilt the innings though, their partnership of 120 putting their side well back in the game. With Crichton departing to a ball from Johnson (1-44), Callum Barnes arrived at the crease only to be caught by Phillip Brown off Graham (2-41) with just three runs on the board.

Meadows’ dismissal, caught off the bowling of Greenwell, put Tynedale in real danger of getting nothing from the game as they slumped from 183-5 to 183-7 with both Renton and Percival going to ducks to Angus.

However, the pairing of Dagg and Leadbitter won the game for Tynedale as they batted away everything in their path. Dagg made his way to 36 with two fours and a six from his 51 deliveries, while Leadbitter went on the assault and his 41 came from just 29 balls courtesy of four fours and two sixes.

It followed a pulsating victory in the 15 over John Armin Trophy the previous evening, Tynedale defeating Lanchester with an over to spare.

Lanchester’s total of 179-1 may have seemed out of reach, but another junior stole the show when Renton made a fantastic 104 not out off 41 balls as he smashed five fours and an unbelievable 10 sixes. He was well assisted by Cant whose 67 from 39 deliveries included three fours and three sixes.

Tynedale II defeated Shotley Bridge II by six wickets as they successfully chased down 217-3. In reply, there were good contributions from Paul Scandle (65), Richard Darling (47no) and teenager Euan Stephenson (37).
