TYNEDALE cemented their place in fourth spot as they defeated fifth placed Lanchester with an impressive performance.

They picked up maximum points in the four wicket victory at their rivals, opening up a 17 point gap between the teams.

Hosts Lanchester won the toss and elected to bat first, and they looked set for a huge score as they made their way to 85-2.

Greg Patterson (10) departed early when caught by Curtis Lucas off young Will Dagg (1-31), with Graeme Brinton (16) putting on a good partnership with opener Teja Nidamanuru (60).

But the introduction of spinners Callum Barnes (4-32) and Tom Cant (3-26) turned the innings on its head and the home side were suddenly struggling on 110-8.

Barnes had Nidamanuru caught by Josh Renton to end his long stay at the crease, and he also accounted for Brinton, Naveed Ahmed (9) and Reynolds (0).

At the other end, captain Cant was making a nuisance of himself and had Greg Halliday (11) and Kieron Taylor (1) both caught behind by Jamie Crichton, with Daniel Storey (1) caught by John Meadows.

Lanchester went on to post a final total of 164 as Marc Ramshaw (25) and Sam Sanderson (24) put on more than 50 for the eighth wicket, but Renton (1-40) finished things off as he ran out Ramshaw and trapped Sanderson lbw.

Tyne turned to teenager Renton to open the batting alongside Meadows (67), but he was unable to match the century he made in the John Armin Trophy recently and went to a disappointing duck when caught by Taylor off Halliday (1-33).

Cant (10) came and went, his stay brief with Reynolds catching him off a Taylor ball.

It was young powerhouse Meadows who rekindled some of last season‘s form to spur Tynedale on, he and James Rainford (39no) ticking them to within touching distance.

Meadows’ 67 came from 45 balls before he was leg before to Nidamanuru (1-44), while Rainford kept going as they claimed the success.

Dagg (16no) helped him guide the team over the line, joining him following the departures of Crichton (10), Barnes (13), Matt Percival (0).

Lanchester II defeated Tynedale II off the second last ball of the game, scraping by to successfully reach the total of 257 set by Tyne.

Tynedale were without a number of regulars but still impressed in bat by posting 256-3, the main contributions coming from Paul Scandle (90), Neil Clark (74) and Michael Watts (46).

In reply, Lanchester won it with two wickets in hand with Matt Pugh (3-48) Tyne’s most useful bowler. Also claiming wickets were Mark Clark (1-32), Watts (1-74), Euan Stephenson (1-38) and Scandle (2-14).
