AN INDIFFERENT display with the bat meant Corbridge weren’t able to make it two wins from two.

They went down by 64 runs at Stobswood Welfare, unable to match their hosts’ consistent order as they settled for just seven points.

Stobswood opener Michael Marshall inflicted a lot of the damage, gearing his side towards the 200 mark with a great spell at the crease.

His time finally came to an end when he was caught by John Davidson off Russell Perry, but he already had left his mark at that point with 86 runs.

Corbridge were buoyed when Perry struck early, but Stobswood recovered through Michael and Richard Marshall.

Teenager Corey Dover got the breakthrough by trapping Richard Marshall, but Antony Wingfield proved as stubborn to help the home side on.

David Swan and Dover started to take regular wickets with the latter taking four, the same amount as Perry who returned to the attack to help stem the flow.

Adam Cook remaind at the crease as the bottom order departed, David Moore, Jack Wingfield and Daniel Townsley spending just brief spells facing the bowlers.

Adam Cook caused all sorts of problems for Corbridge’s opening order, seeing off both David Cox and Perry early in the innings. The ship was steadied by David Smurthwaite and Marcus Sewell, a solid partnership moving them on before they both fell to the same combination of caught by Daniel Cook off the bowling of Wingfield.

Captain Andy Dover carried on the good work in the middle, but he was lacking any real partner as Stobswood’s bowlers removed the tail with Corbridge still way off their goal.

Graeme Tiffin, Corey Dover, John Maude and Davison all departed without reaching double figures, leaving Swan as last man standing.

Blue Flames visit the Stanners on Saturday looking to make it three wins in a row.
