BOWLING out their rivals for just 27 runs, Stamfordham have started life in Division Two with back-to-back victories.

Dropping out of the higher division last year, they have started with a maximum of 40 points from their two games as they inflicted a seven wicket victory on Humshaugh II.

Richie Gledson was the destroyer in chief as he claimed five wickets at the expense of just four runs, Liam Ridley top scoring for Humshaugh with just nine runs.

Stamfordham did lose three wickets chasing the low total as Adam Murphy struck twice and Michael Arnup once, but the target was easy pickings in the end for the home side as Guy Halbert made 14 not out.

A knock of 90 from Matt Joyce earned Hexham Leazes II a first win of the season.

His performance, which included 14 fours, saw his side to a final total of 200, which was 36 runs more than the amount Medomsley could respond with.

In an entertaining game, Joyce’s knock along with an unbeaten 31 from Ben Teasdale at number six guided them along with Colin Bainbridge and Brown claiming three wickets each for Medomsley.

Tony Crosby, Simon Richardson, David Oliver and Craig Stanners all reached double figures for Leazes too.

With the top four of Bainbridge, Brown, Smith and Longstaff all batting well for the visitors, the game was poised to go right down to the wire.

However, two run outs each from Joyce and Stanners put Leazes on top, with Tom Mawson and Teasdale both turning the screw in the bat to see Medomsley’s chase end in the penultimate over.

Knocks of 117 and 81 from Ivan Jepson and Kiel Zurawlew respectively couldn’t guide Corbridge Millers to a second successive victory.

For they succumbed to an equally impressive batting display from hosts Belsay, guided by half century makers Jonny Hedley and Richard Mills.

With Dan Tait continuing his good form with the ball, Corbridge relied on the batting of opener Zurawlew and Jepson for most of their runs as they finished on 207.

Hedley returned to the team after missing the opening day victory and made his mark immediately with a match-winning 80, he and Mills taking the plaudits as Belsay won it in the 37th over.

There were good contributions from captain Allan Johnson, James Moon and Chris Townson, while Tait capped an impressive all-round display.

A good batting performance helped Allendale II to victory over Wylam II.

John Raglan and Richard Sadler got them off to a steady start, with good contributions coming elsewhere, particularly at number eight from Nelson.

An unbeaten knock of 78 from Ross Wilson was the highlight of Wylam’s reply, but they fell short with Nelson ending with three wickets.

Ollie Miller and Thacker also weighed in with runs to help Wilson along.

Mitford A maintained their good start to the season with a 97 run triumph over Wark.

Chris Kirtley’s half century moved them on, as did good knocks from Matthew Ellinor and Hicken.

Lee Telfer ended with three wickets for Wark, and he top scored with the bat as he was one of only three batsmen to make double figures as opener Kieran Mole recorded a five-fer and Paul Martin claimed three wickets.

Mitford B joined them on 40 points for the season as they saw off the challenge of 10-man Stocksfield IV.

The visitors were off to a good start with captain Andrew Newton racking up the runs, fellow opener Peter Walker and Elliott Jackson ticking the score along too.

But the bowling of Michael Briggs, with 4-10, and Gary Nicholson, with 2-21 including the important wicket of Newton, meant scoring was tricky for the remainder of the order.

Craig Mole, Ben Mallaburn and Max Renwick also claimed wickets as Stocksfield were bowled out in the 36th over.

The batting of number three Jordan Mallaburn earned Mitford the points as his 67 helped opener Joe Jackson along.

For Stocksfield, Elliott Jackson took three of the four wickets, with Steven Page claiming the other.
