LOCAL rotarians came to the aid of a cricket club when equipment was damaged in the recent floods.

Having witnessed the widespread devastation at Corbridge Cricket Club as Storm Desmond damaged the clubhouse and playing gear, the Rotary Club of Tynedale stepped in to help.

And they recently presented the Stanners-based club with a brand new cricket roller at a cost of more than £9,000, a significant boost to Corbridge with that particular piece of kit being crucial to the game of cricket.

The rotary club was successful in obtaining a total of £35,000 towards the flood relief in Tynedale, and also managed to acquire a further £20,000 from the Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI) to assist the cricket and tennis clubs in Corbridge.

Tynedale Rotary treasurer Michael Gibbney applied for the various grants and was on hand, along with Rotary president David Hindley, to present the roller to grateful members of Corbridge Cricket Club.
