TYNEDALE recovered from losing two early wickets to inflict defeat on visiting Percy Main.

With the score on 17-2, captain Tom Cant (51) and James Rainford (44) put on 90 runs for the third wicket which helped the Hexham side to the 46 run triumph.

Put into bat first on a wet wicket, they lost John Meadows for a duck as he sent one back to bowler Andrew Green with fellow opener Connor Fellowes (7) not lasting too much longer as he went lbw to Green (5-47).

But the pairing of mates Cant and Rainford put them back on track, shooting the side to 105 as they found their stride.

Cant had survived two appeals before he loosened up by hitting a big six, and he also went on to bag himself six fours. Rainford, meanwhile, hit eight fours from the 38 deliveries he faced before being clean bowled by Philip Cramman (1-50).

In came Jamie Crichton (28) to push the score on by 39 alongside his skipper, hitting two sixes before lbw to former Tynedale player Mark Armstrong (2-50) with Cant going lbw to Green just after making his half ton.

From 146-3, they went to 148-6 with Will Dagg only able to post a single as he became Armstrong’s second victim.

Callum Barnes, though, was to see the innings out and push the score well beyond 200, hitting 36 from 42 balls faced.

He and teenager Josh Renton (15) moved the score to 176, but Renton‘s removal to a Barry Errington catch off Green was followed by a first ball duck for Dale Leadbitter.

But Tynedale were steered over the 200 mark as Barnes and Curtis Lucas (30) put on 46, Lucas replaced by Richard Brooks when bowled by Barry Stewart (1-50). Brooks was last man out after putting on 10 which moved Tynedale to an innings total of 249.

Tyne struck with the score on 15 in Percy’s reply, Dagg (2-29) seeing Warwick (2) lbw. Cant (3-28) then struck to dismiss fellow opener Anderson (23), again lbw, to leave the away side on 38-2.

While Reid (85) was batting through, Percy lost wickets regularly with Stewart (6) bowled by Cant and Cramman (4) caught by Leadbitter off Barnes (1-56).

Warwick and James Stanistreet (28) rebuilt the innings and took the score to 160 with an 80 run partnership which was ended when the latter was run out by Renton.

From there, Percy fell to 206 all out with danger man Reid caught by Rainford off Dagg, Jonathan Prested (2) caught behind by Crichton off Brooks (2-26), Michael Boyd (0) caught by Lucas off Cant, Green (3) caught by Cant off Brooks and Errington (7) caught by Brooks off Rainford (1-5).

Armstrong remained at the crease on 14 not out from just 10 deliveries, but the game was up as they fell short of their target. The victory for Tyne keeps them in fourth position.

Tynedale II crushed Newcastle City II by 191 runs, some big knocks from the order sending them to a formidable 285-5.

Paul Scandle led the way with 93, with Neil Clark (45), Michael Watts (41) and Richard Darling (59no) all making great contributions.

David Newton made his mark with 19, with the remainder of the runs coming from Richard Byerley (6) and son Nathan (1no).

Ten-man Newcastle were knocked out for 94, Edward Pinches claiming a magnificent 5-15 from his seven overs, with Richard Byerley (2-13), Darling (1-18) and Newton (1-29) taking the other wickets.
