CORBRIDGE Middle School’s talented girls’ cricket team were just two deliveries away from being crowned champions of the North.

The school’s U13 team made their way to the final of the Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket final, and were locked in a nail biting showdown with Ormskirk.

The scores were tied with just two balls to go, with the Lancashire school finding the required run they needed to go on to the next round.

It was a fantastic effort from the Tynedale girls who stormed the earlier rounds, getting off to a great start with a 31 run victory over Keswick.

They progressed as group winners after following it up with successes over Welsh champions Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen and eventual winners Ormskirk, by just eight runs.

The winning margin was 33 runs when Corbridge met Cheshire school Prenton in the semi-finals, before Ormskirk got their own back in the final.

Corbridge were joined at the Bolton championships by Hexham’s Queen Elizabeth High School U15 team who tied one game and lost two in the group stage.
