STAMFORDHAM'S openers made Mitford B pay for a dismal display in the field.

Stalwart Ian Donkin and Guy Halbert knocked off the required 116 in 16 overs to guide their team to an eye-catching 10 wicket victory.

And dropped catches proved costly for Mitford as both openers were dropped within the opening four overs, Halbert dropped on 18 with Donkin put down twice in the fourth.

Making the most of his extra lives, Donkin was particularly ruthless as he went on to reach his 50 with a classy innings, Mr Stamfordham named man of the match after a good display with the ball too.

Halbert, who was in high scoring form too as he fired five fours, and Donkin, with seven fours and a six, took the score to 100 by the half-way stage, with the latter recording his 50 with just three runs needed.

The two could have batted on all day as they were largely untroubled by the bowlers, but it was the Mitford fielders who had a day to forget with three important drops and a missed run out opportunity in the sixth over.

It was an anti-climax to the Division Two Cup final after Mitford posted a par score of 115, a decent knock against some good Stamfordham bowling.

Unlike Richie Gledson when he tipped over a full tray of alcohol during team celebrations, Stamfordham's handling abilities were of the highest order and they led the way when it came to fielding.

They held on to six efforts to restrict the Mitford scoring, complementing the deliveries from their bowling attack.

Mitford openers saw off Stamfordham's opening pair of Benn Horncastle and Joe Lonsdale, but captain Graham Adamson got the breakthrough when he had Tom Carmichael removed.

Rich Brown and Jordan Mallaburn started to rebuild the innings, but Adamson again struck to remove the dangerous Brown with Donkin throwing his weight about to see off Mallaburn and Mike Briggs.

Adamson finished with three wickets as Ben Baker fell to one of his deliveries, and Neil Brewer was run out by another great piece of fielding by Stamfordham.

For Mitford, Matty Lees looked solid as he guided his side to triple figures but his great knock, including a six and three fours, ended on 30 when the returning Lonsdale forced him to return one to him.

Lawrence Park came in for the final ball of the over and smashed a four from his only delivery faced, but the good work of the batsmen was in vain as Donkin and Halbert were allowed to breeze their way to the emphatic victory.
