ONE more victory and Corbridge’s U13 girl’s team will have made the national final of the Lady Taverners Hardball Competition.

A fantastic all-round performance earned then victory over Yorkshire side Yapham in the regional final at the weekend, opponents from either Holme Valley or Leigh standing in their way of a place in the final.

Corbridge captain Katie Chomse won the toss and decided to bat first, and she and Ciara Boaden opened against some tough bowling. After Ciara was caught after some good shots, Freya Ward came in and formed a formidable partnership with Katie as they took every opportunity which came their way.

It looked like they were going to bat through but 42 runs and 17 overs later, Katie was trapped lbw and Freya bowled by the same change bowler.

Josie Fenwick, Annabelle Satow and Kirstin McLeod all came in to try for quick runs, with Corbridge finishing all out on 89 runs.

Corbridge’s bowling was exceptional, and they put the pressure on immediately with Katie taking Yapham’s opening batter first ball. She maintained the great start with a further two wickets at the cost of just two runs, while Annabelle finished with 2-11 and Ciara 2-17.

Kirstin showed quick hands as wicketkeeper to take a great catch off Ciara’s bowling, while Freya, Niamh Cassidy and Clara Collis fielded well too.
