IT was closer than the winning margin suggests, but Tynedale went down to some tactical batting from Lintz.

The home side know fine well how to make the most of the small boundary at their pitch, and they again exploited it to good effect to record the eight wicket victory.

In a rain affected game which was reduced to 36 overs per side, an eye-catching display from teenage offspin bowler George Cook and an attacking knock from Sam Mannion, falling just shy of his second century of the season, were the stand-out displays for Tyne.

Mannion opened the batting alongside captain Tom Cant in the absence of Jamie Crichton, and the pair raced to 35 from six overs. In the sixth over, Mannion cleared the rope with a crisp straight bat and quickly followed it with two fours.

At the other end, facing Kieron Gohery, Cant played to leg an in fron to square for a couple of good looking fours until Nick Young tempted him to drive straight into the hands of Johnny Foster in the covers with the score at 39.

From here, many of Tynedale's batsmen got half a start as Mannion tried to steer a clear course towards 200. Matthew Percival was soon disposed and James Rainford crashed a cover drive for four to bring 50 up for the visitors, but he was bowled on 58 by Young.

The arrival of left arm, slow bowler Chris Bowes allowed Tynedale to consolidate, with Euan Stephenson setting himself before missing a straight full toss when playing across the line.

Paul Newton became Bowes' second victim after adding 35 with Mannion, with Hedley Renton becoming his third an over later.

Josh Renton, who with Mannion added 45 for the seventh wicket, hit a big six to get Tyne past 150 but he was caught out to the medium pace of Andrew Smith.

Mannion tried adventurously to reach 100 but was caught by Foster on 95, his score from 94 balls including eight fours and four sixes.

Dale Leadbitter pushed the score on before he was dismissed, leaving Richard Brooks and Cook stranded as the overs ran out.

Cook had a starring role with the ball as Tynedale tried in vain to curtail Lintz's scoring, taking both wickets.

However, a big opportunity came with 11 overs to bowl when new batsman Ryan McVittie hit a cover drive towards Hedley Renton, but the ball somehow zipped to the ground despite the fielder getting much of the ball in his grip.

It was a let off for Lintz who went on to end the game in the penultimate over.

Cook's seven overs were interesting as he removed Foster after his half century, a smart catch from Leadbitter at midwicket ending the promising partnership with Gohery.

With Newton brothers David and Paul missing from the line-up, Cook was Tynedale's big hope and he took a diving catch to his right to finally remove the dangerous Gohery.
After Renton put down McVittie, he and Jordan Clennell fielded shots to all parts of the compact ground as Cant, Percival, Josh Renton and Stephenson failed to take a wicket in the final 10 overs.
