AFTER a narrow victory over Corbridge Millers in a low-scoring game, Wark moved up one place in the Division Two table.

They followed up their success over table topping Mitford A with a two wicket victory, jumping ahead of Hexham Leazes II in the process.

Corbridge were asked to bat first in damp conditions, and were off to a steady start through the returning Gavin Howdon and Gary Chamberlain.

But Lee Telfer struck to remove both openers and Jake Howdon, allowing Wark to get on top.

Muhammad Umar Hayat Chaudhry showed resistance midway through the wickets, but Mick Turner and Greg McConnell equalled Telfer's three wicket haul to see the visitors all out on 82.

Wark's innings started disastrously as they lost their top three of McConnell, Ryan Potts and Graham Jeffrey for ducks as Corbridge openers Shuja Khan and Khaild Mahmood turned up the heat.

Wark captain Paul Armstrong dug in to stop the rot, but it was the ninth wicket pairing of Phil Suckling and John Pigg which earned the side all 20 points with a solid stand late in the day.

Clara Vale II were indebted to openers Andrew Porteous and David Lee as they secured victory over Stocksfield IV .

Porteous passed his half century and Lee fell just before reaching his, both departing off the bowling of Dan Taylor.

The rest of the Clara order struggled for runs as Taylor added a third victim, while teenagers Sam Jolly, Elliott Trott and Matthew Tobin got in on the act too.

Stocksfield gave it a good go in reply with Tobin leading the way with a great knock of 41, aided by Stephen Smith and a steady innings from Trott. However, they ended up 60 runs short despite their best efforts.

Mitford B shot to the top ahead of their club rivals as they were presented 20 points when bottom side Wylam II conceded, jumping up from fourth place with the rest of the division rained off.
