KELLY Withycombe wrote her name into the West Tyne League history books with a fantastic spell of spin bowling.

From her six overs, she took six wickets at the expense of just seven runs to record the best bowling figures by a female cricket in the league.

Her fantastic performance, her first five-fer in men's cricket, saw her team Matfen Hall to victory over Wylam and her into the top 10 of Division One's leading wicket takers with 11 for the year.

It also caps a great 12 months with the ball for Kelly for recently recorded four wickets for Northumberland Women against Scotland, with her first five wicket haul for the county coming last season.

Another highlight this year saw her claim the wicket of ex-Newcastle United goalkeeper Steve Harper for South Northumberland for Matfen's midweek team, of which she captains. She was promoted to vice captain of the West Tyne team this year.

Kelly said: "The ball just came right for me, and my figures would have been better if my full toss wasn't smashed for four!

"But I got the wicket of Rob Bergstrand soon after, and it all went from there. I was really happy to put in a good performance and help the team out.

"Circumstances have worked against us and we were on the back of some losses, so it was nice to help the team back to winning ways."
