HAYDON Bridge won the West Tyne Cricket League Cup title for the first time since 2011 as they benefited from a time penalty.

Their final opponents Allendale went over the allocated 75 minutes to bowl their 20 overs, adding five runs per over left onto Bridge's score totaling 10 as two overs remained.

The extra runs proved vital in helping Bridge pass Allendale's total of 108, Mark Elliott firing the required five runs in the second last over of the game.

Haydon Bridge had to be patient in their reply against good opening spells from Tim Raglan (2-21) and Ross Laidlaw (1-19), but a solid 46 from Neil Kendrew propelled them towards victory.

Allendale were up against some good bowling as they opened too, Eliot Corbel top scoring with 46 with Bridge bowler Jamie Taylor earning the man of the match award after a scintilating performance saw him take six wickets at the expense of just 12 runs.

A phenomenal batting display from Greg Brown (112*) saw Wylam II ease to the Division Two title, inflicting a double defeat on Allendale.

Connecting sweetly with everything that came his way, he powered his side to a formidable score of 231-2 from 20 overs with captain Rob Bergstrand (71) and Neil Wells (34) also contributing.

After a slow start, Allendale's second team passed the 100 mark with Kevin Philipson (21) and Rhys Scott (20) top scoring, Richard Opie (3-30) taking three wickets for Wylam.
