At Northumberland Cricket Board’s recent Turfcare Specialists Ground of the Year Awards, both Stocksfield and Hexham Leazes received respective prizes for topping their league’s table.
Stocksfield’s immaculate pitch just off the A695 was judged the best in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League, with Leazes gaining the accolade from all the teams in the West Tyne League.
They were both beaten to the title of best ground in Northumberland though, that honour going to Ashington Rugby.
Meanwhile, NCB’s drive to get more youngsters playing the sport has enjoyed a good take-up rate so far.
In conjunction with Active Northumberland, the board offered an early bird discount rate for its Community Cricket Course for those signing up before Christmas.
The weekly sessions start on January 7 and will be held at Wentworth Leisure Centre.
