NORTH East Premier League side South Northumberland will head to little ol’ Haltwhistle.

The club’s formidable first team, which could contain former Australian international Marcus North, have been drawn at the west Tynedale side in the quarter-finals of the county cup, the Bobby Smithson Cup.

It is Haltwhistle’s reward for thrashing West Tyne League rivals Allendale by 139 runs in the previous round, building on the upset they caused when eliminating Tynedale at the first hurdle.

Haltwhistle were in excellent form during the last 16 match-up with Allendale, posting a fantastic 207-4 from their 20 overs.

Openers Joe Barber and Dan Parker were the main instigators, Barber with 62 before being caught by Martin Blair off Matty Scott’s bowling while Parker was run out on 69 by Dan Mills.

After Scott had Jonny Wallace caught by John Welch for a duck and Greame Lee was caught by John Raglan off Blair for seven, Phil Thompson (28*) and Reece Thirtle (11*) took them to 207.

Allendale’s batting order were unable to cope with Haltwhistle’s bowlers, Barber and Wallace both taking three wickets.

Daryl Thompson claimed two and Phil Thompson the other, as Rhys Scott was the only batsman to reach double figures with 17.
