TYNEDALE were again frustrated by the rain when in a good position to challenge for the points.

They had hosts Ponteland struggling along on 135-7 with overs running out but, as was the case when they looked good value to defeat leaders Swalwell, the weather forced the abandonment of the game.

Wayne Ritzema (18) and James Davidson (18) took Pont to 35 before Curtis Lucas (3-29) made the breakthrough for Tynedale. Will Dagg (2-54) struck soon after.

Ponteland were struggling with James Whiteley (2) Lucas‘ second victim while Niall Penfold (14) and John Lumb (6) were both removed with the score on 60, Callum Barnes (1-26) getting in on the act.

The Tyne bowlers were again on top as Jonathan Appleby (21) was caught by John Meadows off Dagg and Dan Wright (12) went to a catch by Connor Fellowes to give Cant (1-22) a wicket.

John Gardner (21no) and Iftikhar Fazal (17no) aimed to see the innings out, but the break for the weather proved a permanent one.

Tynedale II lost to Ponteland’s second string by 44 runs, their score of 180-7 too much for the home side.

They managed the total despite Tyne’s five bowlers all claiming wickets; Edward Pinches (1-41), Dorian Hiles (1-23), Matt Pugh (1-44), Mark Clark (2-49) and Richard Byerley (1-14).

Tynedale were unable to make the required run rate, Andy Percival (27) and Nathan Byerley (25no) top scoring.
