STOCKSFIELD‘S impressive debut season in the Northumberland and Tyneside League is fizzling out somewhat.

For they put in another disappointing display as they picked up a sole point in their eight wicket loss at home to Lintz, managing a well below par total of 90.

After the previous week’s defeat to Seaton Burn, Stocksfield would have been hoping to keep alive their hopes of pushing for a top three finish but the fight didn‘t materialise.

Electing to bat first, they were off to a slow start as Alex Brown, back opening for the team, went for a duck and the in-form Ben Archer went for nine, both to Nick Young (5-23).

Henderson and Sam Mannion (15) steadied the ship slightly but Henderson was to fall to Young after putting in a good shift, and Mannion was caught by Joe Bainbridge off Marcus Peart (3-13).

Their dismissals were big ones and there was little assistance elsewhere, Young making it five wickets by claiming Dan Whiley (8) and Sam Beedle (0), with Peart ending with three by having James Doneathy (6) caught and James Tolchard (0) lbw.

In between, Kieron Gohery (2-30) struck to send Andrew Wood (4), caught by Chris Gray, and Emerson Brown (4) packing. Rob Thirwell was not out on four as Stocksfield crashed out for just 90.

They might have sensed an unlikely victory when Tolchard (1-15) struck early to have Gohery (1) departing early in reply.

But fellow opener Jordan Clennell provided the fire power Lintz needed and he hit six fours and a six to pass his half ton.

He batted throughout the 22 overs, helped over the line by Ryan McVittie (17) after Paul Lumley (18) was bowled by Thirlwell (1-22).

Stocksfield III have enjoyed a successful first year in the B2 division and will finish in the top five, their place secured with a comfortable 115 run success over Leadgate II.

Jonny Tobin (91no) and Trevor Walker (88) put on 170 for the second wicket to help the team to 216-4, Tobin particularly impressive as he kept his wicket throughout all 42 overs.

Stocksfield‘s bowlers came to the fore too as they had Leadgate all out for 101, Matthew Scandle (3-12) and Perry Hall (3-18) the key men, while Tobin (2-18) and Paul Watson (1-7) also struck. The other wicket came courtesy of a Scandle run out.
