WITH Andy Dover removing seven wickets, Corbridge returned to winning ways after three straight defeats.

It was a good day all-round for the Tyne Valley side as they posted 181 with the bat before backing up the performance by removing hosts Tillside 77 runs short.

Dover‘s (7-50) spell with the ball proved significant, making things difficult for the order throughout his 13 overs which included two maidens.

It was his fellow opener David Hardy who struck first to have Jack Bagness (5) departing for the breakthrough.

Yet Dover took over to take the next seven wickets, claiming two lbw decisions and then clean bowling four others. He then showed quick reactions to catch one from his own delivery.

Dover’s spell had Tillside reeling and Michael Kirchner scored a run out after he was unable to claim a wicket.

It was over to Corbridge captain Chris Fowler to end the game by bowling out the last man with just his second ball.

Their 104 was somewhat off the 181 posted by Corbridge as they opened, a steady start given through Simon Walker (8) and Ross Atkinson (26).

Walker‘s dismissal was followed by the removal of hard hitting skipper Fowler (14), while Atkinson and Harry Oliver (0) fell within quick succession.

Old timer John Maude again showed his importance to the cause with four fours on his way to a top score of 42, while Jack Garret (10), Dover (6) and Kirchner (11) all chipped in.

When Maude was finally caught after four fours from his 100 deliveries, partner Hardy (31no) saw things through despite the cheap wickets of Daniel Craigie (0) and John Davidson (0).

Corbridge II’s match-up with Whitley Bay II was abandoned, Bay all out for 160 and Corbridge on 144-5. Gary Rutherford claimed a fantastic 4-16 for Corbridge, whose run chase was boosted by Mike Stephenson (44) and David Smurthwaite (59).
