FIRMLY moving away from the drop zone, Corbridge now occupy a place in the top half of the table following an impressive victory over Stobswood Welfare.

With captain Andy Dover and Russell Perry taking eight wickets between them, the hosts ripping through their relegation-threatened guests to bowl them all out for just 38 overs.

Stobswood's innings lasted just 22 overs as Corbridge's opening two were in devastating form, the new ball pairing taking four wickets between them with the score on three.

Perry kick started their demise by removing Michael Marshall, and two wickets followed without any addition to the score as Perry claimed Daniel Watson after Ian Watson was run out.

David Colam was the next to go as he became Dover's first victim, caught by son Corey, with the skipper quickly following up with the wickets of Antony Wingfield, Adam Cook and Esmond Black to take the score to 21-7.

David Moore was bowled by Perry and Dover completed his five-fer by removing Karl Dullaghan at 25-9.

Perry and Dover were replaced by Zubair Ahmed and Corey Dover in attack, and they kept things tight by conceding just two runs each in their one over each.

Dover jnr finished things off as he took a sharp catch from his own bowling to remove last man Michael Beverley, who, alongside Daniel Cook, had produced the most productive partnership for the 10th wicket as they put on 13.

Chasing a low total, the Corbridge batsmen were positive in response and needed just over 12 overs to knock off the runs.

They did lose David Smurthwaite, Chris Fowler and Simon Walker as Adam Cook took two wickets, but Marcus Sewell and Russell Perry combined to secure maximum points for the hosts.
