THERE was double disappointment for Tyne Valley cricket teams in midweek action last night (04/05).

For both Tynedale and Stocksfield were sent crashing out of the Northumberland and Tyneside A Division League Cup.

Division Two side Stocksfield lost by 41 runs to Division One's Ponteland, an opening partnership of Stuart Taylor (40) and James Davidson (58) inflicting most of the damage as Pont finished their 20 overs on 143-3.

James Tolchard (2-27) claimed the two openers, while James Doneathy (1-33) bowled number three Jordan Armstrong (27).

A much changed Stocksfield side lost captain Dan Whiley (3) and Steven Henderson (1) early, but Ben Archer (30) and Luke Doneathy (29) gave them hope.

A middle order collapse then put paid to their chances, with useful contributions from James Watson (10), Tolchard (10*) and James Doneathy (10*) coming too late in the evening as they ran out of time with the score on 102.

Lintz, from Division Two, caused a shock as they removed Tynedale following their 25 run victory.

Lintz's half century maker Ryan McVittie (55) turned up the heat, well supported by Gary Christie (20) as the visitors reached 120-5.

Ross Sinclair (2-33) made the breakthrough with the ball for Tynedale, with Curtis Lucas (2-22) and Tom Cant (1-17) also claiming wickets.

A 30-run partnership between Cant (14) and James Rainford (34) was the highlight of Tyne's innings as they were all out for 95, teenager Dale Leadbitter weighing in with a good knock of 13 at the death before being caught in the final over.

Corbridge, meanwhile, are through to the second round of the Thomas Wilson Memorial Cup, contested by Northumberland Cricket League members, after their low scoring win over Monkseaton on Tuesday (03/05).

They were asked to bowl first and took advantage of a slow and soggy outfield to restrict Monkseaton to just 59 runs. Doug McKendrick was the star of the show with three wickets, with captain Andy Dover and Dave Cox both claiming one too.

Corbridge's reply started shakily as they were three wickets down in the opening 10 minutes. But they recovered, Chris Fowler making 12 runs and Dover joining him in double figures as his six, which took him to 14*, sealed the win at the end of the penultimate over.

The victory means they will travel to Gateshead Ethnic Minorities on May 24 to fight it out for a quarter-finals place.
