JUST beating the monsoon, Corbridge picked up an invaluable 30 points to move out of the bottom two of the Northumberland Premier Division.

A great display in the reduced 35 over game helped them to a 61 run success over Kirkley, David Cox putting in a man of the match performance as he starred with bat and ball, as well as scoring two run outs.

After losing captain Andrew Dover (8), Ross Atkinson (50) and Mattie Thompson (28) put on 70 for the second wicket.

Atkinson departed after hitting 50 from 43 deliveries, with Thompson and falling with the score on 100.

Corbridge's batsmen remained positive and on the attack, Chris Fowler (26) and Russell Perry (15) pushing the score on.

Cox (51) came in with the score on 130 and reached his half ton off 47 balls, departing after Dean Robinson's (4) brief spell.

Corbridge ended on 204-7, Jack Garrett (7*) and David Smurthwaite (1*) seeing the overs out.

In response, Kirkley struggled to keep up with the required run rate with opening bowlers Perry (0-36) and Dover (1-29) keeping things tight.

Robinson (3-36) and Cox (2-24) came in and hurried things along, Robinson unfortunate not to end with six wickets with his fielders failing to provide the required support.

It was Cox who stole the show though, taking two wickets and scoring two fantastic run outs to leave Kirkley reeling, Garrett (1-15) finishing things off by having top scorer Alex Ball (35) caught by John Maude.

Corbridge enjoyed a double triumph with their second team defeating Tynemouth II by seven wickets.

Corbridge found the required runs in the 29th over as Simon Walker (40*) carried his bat well, with good support from Anthony Brown (36) and Harry Oliver (19).

Tynemouth were out for 109, Oliver (3-21) and youngster Corey Dover (3-13) taking three wickets each, with Finn Garrett-Jowsey (2-17), Daniel Craigie (1-37) and Walker (1-9) also weighing in.
