CORBRIDGE girls’ cricket team have rached the semi-finals of the U13 Lady Taverners hardball competition, following a win over Willington.

Having won the toss, the team opted to bat first, and the opening pair of Lizzie Scott and Ciara Boaden started off steadily, before the latter was bowled out.

In went captain Katie Chomse, who quickly found her stride and established a formidable partnership with Lizzie.

Just after the 10-overs mark, Katie retired on 51, making way for Freya Ward to step up to the crease.

Shortly afterwards, Lizzie reached 50 runs, before stepping aside to allow Clara Collis into bat.

All the batters were impressive and when Freya was bowled for 28 runs, Niamh Cassidy stepped in, and ended the innings not out, alongside Clara, with Corbridge totalling 171.

Freya and Katie opened the bowling and managed three wickets between them in the first three overs, before other bowlers also made significant contributions.

New players Libby Squires and Josie Fenwick were great additions to the team and enjoyed their debuts.

Willington finished on 57 runs after 20 overs; with two wickets for Katie, a wicket and run-out for Freya and a wicket for Lizzie.

It is not yet known who will provide the semi-final opposition for the strong Corbridge side.
