CORBRIDGE will be heading to the national final for the second within three years.

After their game last year with Leigh, of Greater Manchester, was decided on in their opponents’ favour in a bowl out due to bad weather, the Tyne Valley U13 girls proved a point when they won the regional final of the Lady Taverner’s National Hard Ball Competition against the same opposition.

They now go through to the national final in Derby at the end of the month.

Captain Katie Chomse won the toss and opted to field first, and they performed to a high standard with the bowlers on top form.

Katie set the tone of the game when she induced a rash shot from Leigh’s captain, and star player, in the second over, the ball hurdling towards Clara Collis who caught with ease.

The bowlers then made short work of the batting order, Katie and Freya Ward taking two wickets each, Harriet Robson, Lizzie Scott and Ciara Boaden taking one each too, backed up by some great fielding from Niamh Cassidy and wicketkeeper Kirstin McLeod.

With Leigh only scoring 50, Corbridge faced some tough bowling saw Lizzie depart early to bring Harriet in with Ciara, who fell a couple of shots later.

Katie and Harriet then formed a great partnership to take the total to 42, until Harriet’s departure introduced Freya.

Together, Freya and Katie worked well to see Corbridge over the line and put them in the grand showdown.
