CORBRIDGE recovered from a shaky start to defeat Ulgham by a comfortable margin of 150 runs.

Losing openers Ross Atkinson (3) and Chris Darling (0) early on, a long day could have been in store as they struggled to 9-2.

But they were put on the road to recovery by the third wicket stand of Russell Perry (19) and Chris Fowler (13), putting on 36 to steady the ship.

The end of the football season saw Prudhoe Town FC manager Mattie Thompson (46) return to the crease, and he made his mark as he put on a great partnership with Dave Smurthwaite (62*).

The latter continued batting through once Thompson was bowled, joined by captain Andy Dover (57*) who weighed in with some big hits as Corbridge ended on 267-7.

Ulgham couldn’t get going as Corbridge took regular wickets, Doug McKendrick (5-31) particularly impressive as he were teammates Perry (2-19) and Dean Robinson (3-33).

Corbridge also performed well in the field, with the highlight being an outstanding one-handed diving catch from Simon Walker as Ulgham were all out for 117.

Corbridge II lost by 68 runs to Whitley Bay II, the visitors posting 186-9 with Chris Jowsey (3-54), Corey Dover (2-18) and Finn Garrett-Jowsey (2-46) in the wickets.

Corbridge ended on 118-5 with John Davidson (36), Graeme Tiffin (36) and Neil Tiffin (23) adding most of the runs.
