CORBRIDGE created a new record in the Northumberland Premier Division by skittling their opponents all out for a demoralising total of 20.

Opening bowlers David Hardy (4-11) and Michael Kirchner (5-9) were on fire as they ripped through Gateshead Ethnic Minorities’ order, seeing them way shy of the 137 posted by the away side.

The innings total is the lowest to be recorded in the division, relieving Corbridge of the unwelcome title they had held since 2004 when dismissed for 27 by Cramlington.

Only Hardy and Kirchner were needed to end GEMS‘ embarrassing run chase, the duo ending proceedings with the first ball of the 12th over.

Hardy finished with the wickets of Syed Shah (2), Omer Hussain (6) who was caught by Graeme Tiffin, Sabell Ahmed (0) and Iftikhar Hussain (1).

Kirchner ended things by claiming a fourth batsman for a duck, adding Amaan Ul-Haq to the list of opener Amir Mukhtar, Syed Mehdi and Munawar Ahmed.

He also had Tabashir Alam (4) caught behind by Ross Atkinson.

With the bowlers starring, there was also a run out scored by Dean Robinson as he had Gateshead skipper Zhoaib Shahid out for nought.

The bowling display saw Corbridge defend a reasonable total of 137, which included a mid order wobble.

After stand-in skipper Hardy won the toss and put Corbridge into bat, Simon Walker (24) and Atkinson (14) got the scoreboard ticking along steadily until the latter departed as Shahid caught him short of his crease.

In came David Smurthwaite (22) and he and Walker were steady away to push the score on.

Walker was replaced by Mike Stephenson (14) when he was caught by Mukhtar off Alam (6-23), who started to wreak havoc with the ball.

Off his bowling, Smurthwaite was caught by Omer Hussain, Stephenson by Ahmed, Kanna Niranjan (1) sent one to Mukhtar, while Tiffin (7) was lbw and John Maude (6) clean bowled.

Kirchner was unable to impress with the bat as he went for a duck to Mehdi (2-26), while Hardy (7) was stumped by Mukhtar off Mehdi‘s bowling.

Robinson showed some late resistance as he hit 16 but his trapping leg before by Iftikhar Hussain (1-4) meant Chris Roberts was last man standing on four not out.

It was a welcome return to winning ways for Corbridge, particularly as they were unable to reach triple figures in the previous week’s defeat to Berwick.

It secures their place in seventh in the table ahead of this weekend’s final game of the season at home to 10th placed Blue Flames.

Corbridge II lost by seven wickets to Cramlington II as their total of 125-7 was not enough to trouble their visitors.

Skipper Chris Jowsey (61) and Harry Oliver (21) put on a good second wicket stand, but the rest of the order were unable to reach double figures.

Cramlington found the winning runs in the 27th over, Corbridge youngster Daniel Craigie (2-35) and Cameron Szweda (1-16) claiming the wickets.
