A HALF century from opener Simon Walker saw Corbridge back to winning ways.

His opening knock of 54 not out spearheadedtThe Stanners’ side to a six wicket victory over Bomarsund who produced an unbeaten half century of their own through Colin Thornton.

Visitors Bomarsund posted 158-6 as they opened the batting, but Walker’s knock coupled with decent contributions by his teammates saw them bring the game to an end in the 29th over.

The away side were off to a good start through Thornton (60no) and opener Stephen Thain (32) as they pushed the score onto 55. But their partnership was ended when Andrew Dover (4-63) removed Thain with a great delivery.

It marked a ruthless spell from Dover as he accounted for Neil Straker (2), Adam Purvis (5) and Jonathan Scope (0) in succession, with the aid of keeper Ross Atkinson who caught Straker and stumped Purvis.

Thornton then took a back seat to watch Sam Thornton fire a quick fire 29 from 33 balls, helping his team to 129 before bowled by Hardy (2-42).

Ticking things along, Liam Besford made eight before also bowled by Hardy, with Thornton, whose 60 not out included four fours, and Andrew Matthews (6no) seeing the innings out.

Corbridge were put straight on the right track in reply with openers Walker (54no) and Atkinson making 50 for the opening wicket, Atkinson‘s 30 coming from the same amount of balls.

Continuing the theme, captain Chris Fowler (34) also forged a 50 run partnership with Walker to push them onto 102 before he fell to a delivery from Gary Mordey.

Yet Walker was finding his stride and got the scoreboard ticking more freely by finding the boundaries on six occasions in total.

He put his team well in contention and, with Mattie Thompson chipping in with seven, Doug McKendrick making nine and Dover not out on three, Corbridge avoided a third successive defeat.

A half ton from Chris Sewell was in vain for Corbridge II as their total of 140-8 was achieved by Bomarsund II with eight wickets spare. Joining him in double figures with the bat was Marcus Sewell (21) and Graeme Tiffin (14).

With Bomarsund opener Adam McTaggart hitting a century, they needed just 14 overs to achieve their goal with Harry Oliver (1-70) and Simon Willis (1-22) taking the only wickets for Corbridge.
