AN OUTSTANDING innings from David Cox saw Corbridge Millers to a shock victory over league leaders South Northumberland 1864 .

The in-form batsman showed little mercy on North‘s 10 men, whacking his way to an unbeaten 152 which saw struggling Corbridge move up one place to third bottom.

After captain Mark Terry went early, Cox formed a match winning 231 run partnership for the second wicket with Kannan Niranjan as they looked to move out of sight of their high flying hosts.

South North gave it a good go in reply with good top order knocks but Niranjan carried over his good form.

A century from Rob Willis was in vain for Hexham Leazes II as they narrowly lost a thrilling high scoring encounter with Allendale II by just six runs.

Allendale skipper Howard Robson elected to put his side into bat first, and he and fellow opener Mews got them off to a flyer. Twelve-year-old Matthew Scott then continued the good work as he replaced his captain.

Then followed a bit of a blip as Jerry Taylor claimed four wickets and Vicki Smith two from her two overs.

Willis and Billy Kingman moved Leazes close to their goal but their dismissals by Craig and 12-year-old Ollie Fletcher proved pivotal, as did the capture of Tom Allender, caught by Fletcher off Scott.

Haltwhistle II caused a stir as they inflicted a defeat on title chasing Mitford , their total of 173 earning them maximum points.

It was their top order who caused the damage, particularly Graeme Lee who was well supported by fellow opener Philip Sheldon and number three Robert Graham.

Mitford were steady away in reply but it proved just short in the end, Anthony White removing Mitford’s middle order which proved vital in the end.

Medomsley captain Mark Charlton showed no mercy on Stocksfield IV‘s 10 players, his century helping them to a thumping 247 run success.

He and opener Neil Farrington, who passed his half ton, put them well out of sight early on, with Mark Shaw and Gall also making good contributions as the team past the 300 mark.

Only the experienced pairing of Stephen Page and Andrew Newton could make any dent on the score in reply, the rest of the order unable to cope against some brilliant bowling from man of the match Charlton. His father Terry kept things tight, while Shaw weighed in with two wickets as Stocksfield went for 55.

Newcastle III returned to the top of the table following their seven wicket win over Belsay .

They had their visitors in real trouble with two early wickets, but Belsay pulled it around through good stints from Chris Townson and Izzath Sheriff

Belsay sensed a shock as Prashant, Jack Sinclair and Sam Warwick were all dismissed for ducks, but it was false hope as the pairing of Andreas Hagemann and Adam Senior saw them through.
