HISTORY repeated itself as Consett edged their way to victory over hosts Tynedale in another electrifying game between the teams.

The fixture has become accustomed to plenty of drama and tense finishes, and it was the case again as Dan Milligan, as he did in 2016, kept his nerve to hit the winning runs as he sliced a shot for two runs over David Newton's head at deep fully to take his team past their target of 197.

Consett were without skipper, and former Tynedale captain, Gary Hunter, but the hosts were largely depleted with both Hedley and Josh Renton, James Rainford, Jamie Crichton and Paul Newton all absent from the starting XI.

Paul Scandle, Ollie Fletcher, Ben Griffiths, Richard Brooks, Mark Clark and Ed Foreman all made the step up from the second team, meaning they were unable to fulfill their fixture with Consett II.

Two rain breaks held up proceedings for the best part of an hour, but that didn't stop Tynedale captain Tom Cant from making his second 100 of the year, passing 700 league runs in the process.

Coincidentally, the century maker ended up on the losing side when he hit his other century against Ashington.

Lasting 188 minutes in the middle, his innings consisted of nine fours and a six as he contributed 101 of his team's 196 total.

He and fellow opener Sam Mannion got them off to a solid start with an opening partnership of 54 before the latter skewed a shot for Matt Jackson to catch at backward point.

Scandle looked comfortable but Jackson, again at backward point, produced another excellent catch, this time jumping up to catch above his head.

Fletcher and Cant added 32 for the third wicket before the teenager was trapped leg before by Milligan, while Euan Stephenson hit out with his captain to make 49 before he was bowled by Kamran Mansoor, starting Consett's captain for the day's fastidious spree which saw him finish with six wickets.

Griffiths batted sensibly before edging behind to John Chapman with Newton following suit soon after, and Matthew Percival was stumped at 186-7.

When Cant holed out for the eighth wicket, Foreman and Brooks could only add three further runs before the former was run out and the latter trapped lbw to leave Clark all alone.

After tea, Tynedale got off to a great start when Cant had Jamie Bradley trapped lbw for a duck in the first over.

However, Mansoor and Andy Stokoe dominated with a decisive 124-run pairing for the second wicket as they took full advantage of a flurry of dropped catches.

The partnership was finally ended as Brooks removed Mansoor, caught in the deep by Stephenson to take the score to 124-2, with Stokoe losing sight of Percival soon after for the third wicket.

Jackson and Paul Ringer steadied the innings but neither looked comfortable, and Jackson fell to the bowling of Cant.

Chapman came in but was trapped by Clark after hitting two fours, and Consett suddenly found themselves six men down with 19 still needed after Ryan O'Neill was caught and bowled by Clark.

Percival bowled Ringer moments later and a maiden in his only over from Foreman seemed to suggest the tide was with Tyne.

Sameer Haque was leg before to a Percival delivery, but defensive batting from Ian Cox and Milligan allowed them to see out the match and maximum points for Consett.
