A CENTURY from captain Tom Cant saw Tynedale to maximum points in their comfortable win at Alnmouth and Lesbury.

The skipper led by example as he replaced John Meadows at the crease, his ton from 123 deliveries helping his side to an emphatic 88 run success.

His side showed class throughout the innings as they opened proceedings, going on to post a daunting 271-6 for their hosts to try to chase down.

They were off to a good start courtesy of Connor Fellowes (40) and Meadows (17), taking Tynedale to 60 before Meadows was bowled by Ben Oliver (2-51).

The dismissal of Tyne‘s main danger man only brought with it further problems for Alnmouth as Cant (100) proved a constant thorn in their side as he hit nine fours and a six on his way to his century.

While he and Fellowes could only add 15 together before the opener was caught by Tom Vickers to Oliver, Cant and his trusty sidekick James Rainford put on a 105 run stand to put them well in control.

Rainford was his usual fluent self as his 51 came off 53 balls, but he was sent packing when he returned one to Russell Hughes (2-56).

It was then the turn of Callum Barnes (33no) to impress alongside Cant as they put on 58, Cant finally falling when his stumps were hit by the bowling of Edward Brunton (2-65).

Curtis Lucas (11) hit two fours before being caught by keeper Vickers, while Tim Raglan (6) was stumped soon after. But, with young Matthew Percival (1no) alongside him, Barnes helped his side finish the innings with a challenging total.

Tynedale struck early in their reply when teenager Will Dagg (1-38) had Paul Straker (1) caught by Rainford, but Hughes (59) and Callum Batey (44) sent Alnmouth into triple figures.

Their partnership was ended in good fashion, Lucas (4-34) giving Raglan the catch of Straker and Batey lbw to Barnes (3-13) soon after.

Lucas and Barnes upped the ante, and the hosts went from 107-1 to 114-7 as Lucas removed Charles Anderson (1), Jonny Ridley (3) and Brian Brooks (0), and Barnes removed Oliver (0) to a catch from Meadows.

Alnmouth were only able to make 183 in total as Tyne remained on top, Vickers (7) stumped by Rainford to give Barnes his third wicket, while teenager Dale Leadbitter (1-7) struck to see Brunton (25) caught by Lucas.

With Robin Tudor (20no) digging in, Raglan (1-12) ended things when he clean bowled Nicholas Denton (16) to round off a good day for the Hexham side.

Tomorrow, they welcome Annfield Plain to Priors Flat.

Tynedale II had their own century maker to thank for a thumping 131 run triumph over Alnmouth and Lesbury II, David Newton remaining not out on an excellent 138.

Facing 124 deliveries, he hit 23 fours and a six to guide his side to 249-3 with the help of Paul Scandle who weighed in with 52 of his own. Also making a mark was Richard Byerley (32).

Alnmouth could not get close in reply with the wickets shared around, Noah Hiles causing damage from his two overs to claim two wickets at the expense of just four runs. Richard Darling (2-30), Dorian Hiles (2-25), Mark Clark (1-14), Newton (1-21) and Matt Pugh (1-4) also struck.
