SCORING runs for fun resulted in Ovingham Middle School being crowned county champions.

In a three-way tie with Northumberland’s other district winners, Tynedale title holders Ovingham were declared the top performing team at the U13 Chance to Compete competition after recording a whopping total of 470 runs during their three games.

They were joined by Gosforth Central, Newminster and Valley Gardens schools for the county finals, and an excellent day of cricket which involved plenty of runs scored, wickets taken and catches snaffled throughout.

But it was the Tynedale crew who edged the contest on runs scored, after they had won two of their three encounters.
