BELSAY jumped into the driving seat as the race for the Division Two title heated up.

A comfortable victory over Humshaugh II saw overhaul previous leaders Stamfordham , who made it a cup double as they followed up July's KO Cup by defeating Stocksfield Sharks in the final of the Twenty20 Competition on Sunday.

The game with Humshaugh was Belsay's game in hand, and they took full advantage to go to the top of the leaderboard.

Humshaugh got off to a good start as they opened the batting through Duncan Sewell and Sean Cunningham, but things started to go wrong after Chris Townson saw them both off.

Paul Brierley, Benson and Carl Binovec reached double figures, but Belsay's bowlers were on top as John Fraser and Jonny Hedley took two wickets each, as did Richard Mills who brought the innings to its conclusion.

Belsay reached the total within 20 overs as they were in a hurry to get the game finished, the order hitting 17 boundaries between them.

All batsmen made their mark with captain Alan Johnson, with three fours, and Hedley, with one extra boundary, putting them on track.

Jasper Gray hit 25 from 18 deliveries as he added a six and three fours to his total, with Jack Fenwick top scoring with 32 as he hit four fours and a maximum.

It was over to the aggressive Townson to see the team over the line, hitting two consecutive fours at the death.

An excellent century from Andy Mason guided Allendale II to a big victory over Stocksfield IV , while also earning him promotion to Division One title favourites Allendale's first team in the process.

He was in fine form as he guided his side past 200, making 130 runs before finally falling when young Max Russell stumped him from a Mike Haywood delivery.

Derek Hawes had caused problems for some of Dale's top order, but Mason's knock, along with a good unbeaten stand from Jake and Howard Robson, took the game away from Stocksfield, who were left cursing numerous dropped catches.

Stocksfield were unable to make it to triple figures, although their final score was boosted by 37 extras.

Captain Andrew Newton and Tom Storey had got them off to a decent start in reply, but Stocksfield were soon on top with the Scotts turning the screw to ensure it was 20 points for Allendale.

Wylam II were again unable to field a team as they gifted maximum points to Corbridge Millers .
