GOING all out attack, Jenny Wilkes (right) wasted no time in becoming Corbridge’s first female century maker.

During the Angels’ Twenty20 game with Tillside, a total of 17 fours and a six saw her make an unbeaten knock of 107 on the way to an emphatic victory in the Northumberland Women’s League.

Opening the batting with Kelly Withycombe, who retired before she reached 50, Jenny went all guns blazing to reach the high score within 20 overs.

Her 50 included nine fours, and she maintained her momentum to record the first ton by a woman cricketer at The Stanners club.

Jenny, a promising footballer as a youngster who played for England until injury ruled her out of the game, only took up cricket just over three years ago but has taken to the new sport with ease.

The outstanding knock came not long after a major knee operation, and in the same week that she got her first full time job working as a trainee licensed conveyancer at Toomey Legal Limited, in Corbridge.

Jenny spends most Saturdays at Corbridge Cricket Club, but behind the pavilion as the first team’s scorer.
