LEAGUE leaders Ponteland United Reserves won their 10th game of the season in Northern Alliance Development Division.

They defeated second placed Gosforth Bohemian Reserves 2-0 on Saturday to extend their lead over their rivals to 10 points.

George Harris gave hosts Ponteland a 1-0 lead at the interval following a very strong first half showing. Gosforth saw more of the ball in the second period, but they couldn’t find a breakthrough.

With 10 minutes to go, United sealed the victory courtesy of a long range strike from James Hepple.

Jordan Allin impressed on his debut, and was named man of the match.

Manager Kennie Malia said: “This was three big points at the top of the league table. We were very strong in the first 45 minutes, and sealed it with a very good finish from distance.”

Ponteland Reserves travel to fifth bottom Wideopen A in the league on Saturday. Despite their 10 point lead, the table toppers have played two games more than second placed Gosforth, and will be keen to add to their tally.
