TRIATHLETE Ian Walton recorded a respectable time as he represented Team GB at the European Championships in Glasgow.

The 50-year-old, who is the manager of Matfen Hall's Aqua Vitae fitness centre, competed in the veteran's triathlon event on Saturday.

Walton finished 23rd out of 48 of Europe's best competitors in the 50-55 age category, which was made up of a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run.

His overall time of 1hr 15m 12s saw the Matfen athlete finish in the top half of the results table.

It was won by Fabrice Bossion, of France, with a time of 1hr 8m 15s. Team GB's Mark Russell (1hr 10m 4s) and Tim Ashelford (1hr 10m 21s) were second and third respectively.
