BEACONS of light across Tynedale helped mark the Queen’s 90th birthday on Thursday, April 21.

Staff at Housesteads Roman Fort near Bardon Mill ensured the historic site was among 21 English Heritage properties across the country to be illuminated by a beacon.

Members of Tynedale Agricultural Society, which organises Northumberland County Show, gathered alongside residents of the Bywell Estate to light a beacon on the show field which was designed and created for the occasion by Jameson Bell from Redesmouth.

And in Ponteland, a public event was held by the town council which saw crowds gather on Coates Green.

A beacon was lit on St Mary’s Church, followed by fireworks.
