PONTELAND Beer Festival attracted record crowds this year, with over 2,500 flocking to the two day event.

And plans are already in motion to make next year's festival bigger and better as it will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Ponteland Rugby Club.

The festival, organised by the rugby club, saw over 150 beers, lagers and ciders on offer.

Live music kept the crowds entertained over Friday April 22 and Saturday April 22 and food was on offer from Longhorns barbeque smokehouse.

On Saturday afternoon Ponteland Rugby Club's First XV were pitted against Consett Rugby Club's First Team in their last match of the season, with Consett emerging the victors.
