COLOURFUL characters took to the streets of Haydon Bridge this weekend as the annual wheelbarrow race trundled into action once more.
The traditional Easter Monday race was supported by crowds of residents who turned out in force to cheer on the competitors.
And there was no shortage of fun as teams of two raced around the village via each pub, in imaginative fancy dress.
Dressed as American presidential candidates, Matty Green and Alice Thompson raced to first place.
They were followed by Debbie Dodds and Annie Scanlan as glamour girls; while Dan Nattrass and Lewis Loughhead came in third as Mario and Luigi.
The event has been an anticipated fixture in Haydon Bridge's calendar since the 1960s and, as usual the race ended at the Haydonian Social Club.
